The Tesla military discount is $500 USD off a new Tesla in the United States and $1,000 CAD off in Canada, verified through ID.me before you place your order. It is part of Tesla's Everyday Heroes program rather than a separate military-only offer, and it stacks with a referral link.
This guide covers the Tesla military discount amount in both countries, who qualifies, how ID.me military verification works, which vehicles and orders are eligible, how to claim it, and why claims get denied. It focuses on military and veteran buyers. For the full program and every category, see our Everyday Heroes discount hub.
Tesla Military Discount at a Glance
| United States | Canada | |
|---|---|---|
| Program name | Made in America for Everyday Heroes | For Everyday Canadian Heroes (Military, First Responder, Healthcare, Teacher and Student Purchase Program) |
| Amount off a new Tesla | $500 USD | $1,000 CAD |
| Verification | ID.me, before ordering | ID.me, before ordering |
| Stacks with a referral link | Yes | Yes |
| Stacks with loyalty credit | No, in practice | No, in practice |
| Vehicles | Model 3, Y, Cybertruck | Model 3, Y, Cybertruck |
The U.S. amount was cut from $1,000 to $500 in October 2025, when Tesla also added healthcare workers. Canada stayed at $1,000 CAD. Plenty of pages still quote $1,000 USD; that figure is out of date.
Does Tesla Offer a Military Discount
Yes. Tesla has run a military purchase program in the U.S. for years, first as "Made in America for Those Who Served" and now inside Everyday Heroes. Searchers call it the Tesla military program, the Tesla military purchase program, or the Tesla veterans discount. They are all the same offer, and it is one of several categories inside that program.
The discount is deducted from the purchase price, pre-tax. It is not cash, cannot be transferred to another person, and cannot be applied after the order is placed. Tesla's terms allow only one affiliation per order, so a veteran who is also a teacher picks one category, not two.
Who Qualifies for the Tesla Veterans and Military Discount
United States
Tesla's U.S. page lists these military groups, all verified through ID.me:
Active-duty service members
Veterans
Retirees
Spouses and surviving spouses of service members
Reservists and National Guard members are not named on Tesla's page; ID.me's military category may still verify them, so try verification before you count on it.
Canada
Tesla's Canadian page ("For Everyday Canadian Heroes," subtitled "Military, First Responder, Healthcare, Teacher and Student Purchase Program") lists verified Canadian military members, including veterans, retirees and active-duty personnel, plus dependents of Canadian Armed Forces members. This site's earlier guides said Canadian military members were excluded; that was wrong and was corrected in September 2026. Those dependents need their own NDI 20, or the service member's NDI 75, CAF 74 or NDI 10, to verify.
Canadian military members, veterans, retirees, active-duty personnel and CAF dependents are all eligible. The Canadian Heroes guide has the Canada-specific details.
Law enforcement and other groups
Police officers qualify under the first responder category, not the military one. Searches like "tesla law enforcement discount" land in the same program. The details for police, firefighters, EMS and healthcare are in our first responder and healthcare guide. Teachers and students have their own guides: teacher discount and student discount.
How to Verify Military Status With ID.me
Tesla does not check military records itself. ID.me does. The steps are the same in both countries:
Open Tesla's "Made in America for Everyday Heroes" page (U.S.) or "For Everyday Canadian Heroes" page (Canada).
Choose the military category and select verification with ID.me.
Sign in to an existing ID.me account or create one. You will be asked to prove identity with a photo ID and a selfie.
Confirm your service status. ID.me may match you against records or ask for a document, such as a DD-214 for a veteran in the U.S.
Once verified, you are sent to Tesla's Design Studio and the adjustment appears in your order price.
The name on the order must match the ID.me account. If you are ordering as a spouse or dependent, verify under your own ID.me account in the dependent category. For a deeper walkthrough, see our ID.me verification guide.
Eligible Vehicles and Order Types
Tesla's Heroes pages currently offer Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck in both countries; Model S and X are not offered on the page (production ended in Q2 2026). The discount applies to new vehicles only. Used vehicles are excluded.
Two points we could not confirm from Tesla's wording: whether the discount applies to new inventory vehicles the same way it does to custom orders, and whether it applies to leases. Our other guides note that referrals do work on new inventory. Check that the adjustment shows on the exact vehicle and payment method in your cart before you submit payment. If it does not show, it is not applied.
How to Claim It and the Deadline
Tesla's page says ID.me verification is required before placing the order, and its fine print sets delivery as the outer deadline (same-day orders excepted) and says the offer cannot be applied retroactively. The advice stays simple: verify before you place the order. If you already ordered without verifying, contact your Tesla advisor immediately, but expect the answer to be no.
The safe order of operations is:
Verify with ID.me first.
Open a referral link and start the order from it.
Configure and check out in the same browser session.
Confirm both the military adjustment and the referral benefit show before you pay.
Our how it works page explains the referral side of this sequence.
Stacking the Military Discount With a Referral Link
The military discount and Tesla's Refer and Earn program are separate, and both can apply to the same new-vehicle order. Here is a worked example for each country.
| What you get | U.S. buyer | Canadian buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Military discount off the vehicle | $500 USD | $1,000 CAD |
| Referral benefit for the buyer | 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial | 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial |
| Referrer earns in Tesla Credits | $250 USD | $325 CAD |
| Total to you at order | $500 USD off plus FSD trial | $1,000 CAD off plus FSD trial |
The referral does not reduce your discount, and the discount does not reduce the referral. Your referrer's credit is separate and lands in their account after delivery. Because links stop working once an owner hits Tesla's referral cap, use a verified rotating referral link so the referral half of the stack is not silently lost.
What the Military Discount Does Not Stack With
Loyalty credit. Tesla's referral program targets first-time buyers, and existing owners generally get a loyalty credit or a referral, not both. Our stacking guide covers this in full.
Another Heroes category. One affiliation per order, so you cannot claim military and teacher on the same car.
Used vehicles. New vehicles only.
It does stack with Tesla financing offers, and government incentives are separate programs that the discount does not affect.
U.S. and Canada Differences That Matter
Amount. $500 USD in the U.S. after the October 2025 cut, and $1,000 CAD in Canada.
Dependents. U.S. spouses and surviving spouses are named. Canadian dependents must supply specific Canadian Armed Forces documents to verify.
Documents. U.S. veterans often verify through ID.me's records match or a DD-214. Canadian members go through ID.me's Canadian community verification, which uses different paperwork.
Referral credit. A Canadian referrer earns $325 CAD per delivered referral, against $250 USD in the U.S.
Tesla can change amounts and eligibility without notice, so treat Tesla's page and your order screen as the final word on the day you buy. If a military buyer also qualifies in another category, such as a nurse or a teacher, remember only one affiliation counts per order, so pick the category that verifies most easily.
Common Reasons a Claim Is Denied
Verified after ordering. The most common one. The adjustment never appears and cannot be added later.
Name mismatch. The buyer on the order is not the ID.me account holder.
Wrong category. A veteran verified as a student, or a dependent who verified under the service member's account.
ID.me could not confirm status. Records do not always match, especially for older separations or reserve service. Upload the requested document to ID.me and retry.
Used vehicle. The discount does not apply.
Missing Canadian dependent documents. Dependents need the NDI numbers listed above.
Get Your Referral Link Before You Order
Once you are verified, grab a working link from ReferATesla.ca before you open Tesla's order page, so the discount and the referral land on the same order.
